Michael C. Beebe started working for his family’s school bus business, formally known as Beebe School Transportation, Inc., in the 1950’s while he was still in high school.  He learned the business by helping out in all phases of the daily operations such as maintenance and repair, dispatch, driving, and general management.  During that time his father, John (Jack) W. Beebe, purchased School Lines, Inc. which specialized in bus sales.  After this purchase, Michael was able to learn, and be part of, the sales aspect of the busing industry.  His wife, Karen A. Beebe, joined the family business in 1967 excelling in accounting, payroll, assistant dispatch, and serving as a special education van driver.

In 1975, Michael and Karen branched out on their own by successfully bidding the Old Saybrook contract and naming their company M & J Bus Lines, Inc.  Over the next few years, they were awarded the contracts for the towns of Windham, Lebanon, Middletown, Coventry, Lisbon, and Mercy and Xavier High Schools.

In the mid to late 1980’s, several small bus companies, including Beebe Transportation, Inc. and M & J Bus Lines, Inc. sold their companies to larger companies.  Michael and Karen went on to raise their two sons, Michael John (MJ) and Jason Beebe.

Michael operated a construction company for a few years before purchasing a salvage yard, known as M & J Auto Recycling in Colchester.  Michael and Karen’s oldest son, MJ, started working for the family business after graduating from Denver Automotive and Diesel College in Denver Colorado.  Their son Jason started working for the company, part time, while he was still in high school.

After being away from the school transportation industry for several years Michael knew he wanted to return to the industry and in the fall of 1995, Michael and Karen purchased the school bus company, formerly known as Robert E. Fellage, Inc., who held the contract for Farmington Public Schools.  They named their new company M & J Bus, Inc.  They went on to be awarded contracts for the towns of Granby in 1997, Clinton in 1998 and Old Saybrook in 1999.

Presently, Michael, Karen, and MJ operate M & J Bus, Inc. while Jason remains at M & J Auto Recycling, having turned the business into a successful parts and scrap metal yard.

Over the last 20 years M & J Bus, Inc. has grown into a successful bus company serving multiple communities.  Currently, M & J Bus, Inc. provides the school transportation for the following towns; Farmington, Colchester, Old Saybrook, Windham, Coventry, North Stonington, Lyme-Old Lyme (Region 18), Willington, Westbrook, East Granby, Sprague,  Stafford, North Haven, Pomfret, Columbia, Franklin, Clinton, Lebanon, Suffield, Salem, Bolton, Portland, Mansfield, and the athletic contract for E.O. Smith High School in Storrs.

Michael and Karen have had many dedicated and hardworking employees throughout the years and have experienced minimal turnover.  They are always looking for talented, experienced personnel to join their organization.  M & J Bus, Inc. has talented staff in all areas, including; safety, maintenance, human resources, information technology (IT), managers, dispatchers, and most important the drivers.

Michael and Karen are still very committed to the successful family business that they have grown over the years.  They continue to be hands on within the daily operations of the company.  M & J Bus, Inc. looks forward to future, mutually beneficial, business relationships.
